Tower Hill is among the oldest inhabited parts of England, dating to the Bronze Age and even before. It is just northwest of the Tower of London, which can be seen from many parts of the neighbourhood. The local tube station is, of course, the Tower Hill Underground Station, while Tower Gateway, just across the road, is the start of the DLR line. There’s an old Roman wall near the exit of the Tower Hill Station that is worth a quick look. Like many parts of London, it is a beautiful area, filled with lovely architecture and places of historic interest. It’s also a perfect spot for a family friendly brunch over a week-end, with many an excellent restaurant, and people-watching opportunities galore. The area is quite tourist-friendly, and has a lot to offer, especially on Saturday and Sunday, when many local restaurants offer a cheap week-end brunch buffet. One of the major sights of the area is, of course, the Tower of London, built in 1066. Although it has, in the past, served as a royal residence and the home of the Royal Mint, among a number of other things, its main function today is as one of London’s major tourist attractions. While parts of the tour may be a bit much for children, the Tower is quite family friendly as a whole. Unfortunately, entry to the Tower is not cheap – however, the view is quite as impressive from the outside, and children will enjoy playing on the stone steps while the rest of the family enjoy an al fresco brunch with a spectacular view.
